Shipping Information
Delivery & Unloading
How will my order ship?
Your order will ship either UPS Ground (depending on size) or on a pallet(s) via a 48' - 53' semi-trailer.
Does someone need to be available to accept delivery?
For UPS Ground shipments, no one needs to be available. However, if it ships via a semi-trailer, someone must be at the location to accept, sign for, and unload the pallet(s). If no one is available at the time of delivery, you will be responsible for any additional re-delivery fees from the carrier.
Who is responsible for unloading my shipment?
If your order is shipping on a pallet(s), you are responsible for the unloading. Please ensure you have enough personnel, staff, and equipment on hand. The driver will bring the pallet(s) to the end of the truck/trailer, but it is your responsibility to remove them from there.
- LTL Shipments: Transported on 48-foot or 53-foot trailers with liftgate service for skids up to 84”. Liftgates cannot handle skids larger than 7'.
- FTL (Full Truckload) Shipments: Do not include Driver's Assistance or a pallet jack. Your destination must have a loading dock, equipment, or staff to remove pallets.
Unloading Time
Unloading time is determined by the actual weight of the shipment. Any time over the allotted free time below will incur detention fees from the freight carrier:
- Less than 1,000 lbs: 15 minutes
- 1,000 - 2,500 lbs: 30 minutes
- 2,501 - 5,000 lbs: 60 minutes
- 5,001 - 10,000 lbs: 90 minutes
- 10,001+ lbs: 120 minutes
Delivery Hours and Scheduling
Standard delivery hours are 8 am - 5 pm, Monday – Friday. If your receiving hours differ, Jamestown must be informed prior to your order shipping. Otherwise, re-delivery fees will apply if the carrier arrives during standard hours and you cannot receive the shipment.
LTL carriers do not call ahead to schedule a delivery appointment. If you require a scheduled appointment, this service is available for an additional $35.
How We Package
At Jamestown Advanced Products, we take great care to ensure your order is packaged securely and arrives in excellent condition.
- Palletizing: For LTL and full truckload shipments, all products are palletized, inspected, shrink-wrapped, and banded.
- Protection: We use “Do Not Stack” tape when needed to prevent damage during transit.
- Assembly: Most products are shipped unassembled to reduce freight damage and improve efficiency. Assembly instructions are available on our website or by request.
Please note: Depending on the size of your order, pallets containing lumber may weigh up to 3,000 lbs. It is the customer's responsibility to ensure appropriate equipment and personnel are available to safely unload the shipment.
Pickup Policy
Jamestown Advanced Products will schedule a pickup with customers prior to order completion. New York State sales tax applies to customer pickup orders unless a valid exemption is provided.
- Delays: See standard shipping delays policy.
- Packaging: Orders will be packed as standard unless otherwise specified.
- Vehicle Requirements: The vehicle must be appropriate for the load. We reserve the right to refuse release of merchandise if the vehicle is too small or lacks sufficient wall height to secure the load.
Shipping Damages
Customers are required to inspect all shipments at the time of delivery. Any visible shipping damage must be noted on the delivery slip before signing for the shipment.
All shipping damage claims must be reported to Jamestown Advanced Products within five (5) business days of delivery. Failure to document visible damage at the time of delivery or to report concealed damage within this time frame may impact your ability to file a claim.
Jamestown Advanced Products will not be responsible for charges incurred from hiring outside service contractors to repair or inspect products without prior written approval.
